For many, this time of year is marked by Pumpkin Spice lattes and Halloween decorations displayed as early as September. Summer is surely over, schools are open, and the sweaters that hibernate in their closets all season long have found their reemergence. When I grew up on the cape, this time of year was indicated by the flooding of the red cranberry bogs; New Hampshire's exhausted cornfield now only show stalky stubs that used to be corn grown high; and here in Connecticut, the last of the Tobacco has been carried off to their red barns and hung to dry....
